The Foundation of Kingdom Priority

This past Sunday, we continued our Kingdom Foundations series with a message titled “The Foundation of Kingdom Priority.” At the heart of the message was one of the most familiar, yet most challenging, teachings of Jesus: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Those words are simple, but they confront the way many of us live. Jesus did not say to seek the Kingdom when it is convenient, when everything else is finished, or when we have extra time. He said to seek it first.

Priority reveals what truly matters to us. We can say God is first, but our schedules, decisions, spending, attention, and habits often tell the real story. Kingdom priority is not simply about adding God to an already crowded life. It is about allowing His Kingdom to become the framework through which everything else is ordered.

Jesus spoke these words in the middle of teaching about worry. People were concerned about food, clothing, and the necessities of life. Those concerns were real, but Jesus redirected their attention. He reminded them that their heavenly Father already knew what they needed.

The answer to anxiety was not to chase harder after provision. It was to seek the Provider.

That is one of the great lessons of Kingdom living. When we make the Kingdom our priority, we are declaring that God can be trusted with everything else. We stop allowing temporary concerns to occupy the place that belongs to eternal things.

Seeking first the Kingdom means asking a different question. Instead of always asking, “What do I want?” we begin asking, “What does the King desire?” Instead of building our lives around comfort, convenience, and personal ambition, we begin aligning ourselves with His will.

That kind of priority affects every area of life.

It shapes how we approach our families, our work, our finances, our relationships, and our future. The Kingdom cannot simply be one category among many. Jesus is not asking for a place somewhere on our list. He is asking for first place.

This is especially important as we continue laying the foundations of Kingdom First Church. We do not want to build around personalities, programs, or preferences. We want everything we do to flow from one central conviction: the Kingdom comes first.

If we keep that foundation strong, other decisions become clearer. We can evaluate opportunities by whether they advance the Kingdom. We can measure success by faithfulness rather than applause. We can make sacrifices with confidence because we know what we are building toward.

The promise attached to Matthew 6:33 is also worth remembering. Jesus said that when we seek first the Kingdom and His righteousness, the things we need will be added to us. That is not a formula for getting everything we want. It is an invitation to trust the Father.

Kingdom priority frees us from having to control every outcome. It allows us to live from faith instead of fear.

As we move through this week, let us examine what truly has first place in our lives. Not just in what we say, but in the way we live.

When the Kingdom is first, everything else begins to find its proper place.

That is the foundation we are building on.

Seek the King.

Seek His righteousness.

Seek His Kingdom first.
